Observe infant in interaction with the parent in face-to-face interaction (8-10 inches) and sitting up examining objects held in front of her.

The infant is interested in both people and objects, but will stare longer and more intently at people’s faces.
Help parents understand that forming an attachment to the parents is the child’s first developmental task. Spending frequent face time, talking, singing, smiling is important, as the child starts to remember the parent’s face and anticipate seeing them.
