Observe the child with interesting objects placed within view.

Elicitation Strategy

Present sharp contrast black and white or brightly colored object to the child about 8-10 inches away from his eyes.

Behavior Observed

The infant stares intently and may smile.

Routines-based Intervention (Embedded Instruction)

Presenting new objects into the baby’s view introduces the world and raises interest. Everything is unique to the young infant, so encourage parents to show the young infant a variety of objects, not just toys. Hold the object long enough for the infant to focus and attend.
