Situations for Observation of Skill

Observe the child during interaction with parents, siblings, and others.

Elicitation Strategy

Make slow, exaggerated movements with the eyebrows, mouth, or tongue and wait for the infant to respond.

Behavior Observed

The infant stares and may make facial movements that appear to be an attempt at imitation.

Routines-based Intervention (Embedded Instruction)

Face-to-face interaction is important for building social relationships. Parents should be encouraged to spend time with their baby looking at, talking to, and engaging their infant in interaction.
