Observe the child examining books independently.
No elicitation needed.
The child carries books to different rooms or wants to take a book with him in the car or stroller.
Encourage parents to keep books where children can access them independently. Board books are fairly indestructible. More fragile books can be placed out of reach, but shared jointly. Adults can begin to teach children about care of books and being “gentle” with the pages, tabs, etc.
