Locates a large sleeve hole

Situations for Observation of Skill

Observe the child changing clothes. This allows observation of both undressing and dressing.

Elicitation Strategy

The adult hands the child a pullover shirt, and asks her to put it on.

Behavior Observed

Once the head is in the shirt, the child will try to find the sleeve. This may be too hard unless the sleeves are baggy.

Routines-based Intervention (Embedded Instruction)

Early childhood educators and parents can encourage the child to help dress themselves. The child will like helping the adult find the head and arm holes, put shoes on and off, etc. Encourage the child to do as much dressing and undressing independently as she can.
