Listens with interest to books with alliteration (uses same sounds in beginning and other parts of words)

Situations for Observation of Skill

Observe the adult reading several different types of books to the child: a simple storybook, a picture book, and an alliterative book.

Elicitation Strategy

After reading the books, ask the child which one she wants to read again.

Behavior Observed

The child chooses the alliterative/rhyming books to read again.

Routines-based Intervention (Embedded Instruction)

There are many alliterative and rhyming books available for toddlers. Encourage parents to take advantage of the local library to access a variety of these books. They then can purchase the favorites, if desired. Children love to have their favorite books reread many times. This allows them to learn the words, rhymes, and patterns in the book.
