Situations for Observation of Skill

Observe the toddler in play with others.

Elicitation Strategy

Have an object that belongs to someone else. Hold it up and ask, “Whose is this?” If the child says the person’s name. Say, “Is it his or hers?”

Behavior Observed

The child appropriately identifies “his” or “hers.”

Routines-based Intervention (Embedded Instruction)

Encourage early childhood educators and parents to use pronouns when talking to the child to model appropriate usage.
