Talks about what he “knows” and “thinks” about the world

Situations for Observation of Skill

Read a book about a child or animal learning what they can do. Talk to the child about what he can do. Ask questions about how he knows certain facts in the book.

Elicitation Strategy

Elicitation takes place through the discussion with the child about skills illustrated in the book and about what he knows about information in the book.

Behavior Observed

The child brags about what he can do by himself. When asked how he knows something, the child may say, “I just know.”

Routines-based Intervention (Embedded Instruction)

Impress on parents the importance of reading to their child and discussing the skills and traits of the characters in the book.
