Experiments with combining shapes in different configurations

Situations for Observation of Skill

Have shape blocks available for playtime.

Elicitation Strategy

No elicitation is needed.

Behavior Observed

The child will experiment with combining the blocks in different ways, a triangle on a square, a circle on a circle, etc. The child is not trying to make a specific thing at this stage.

Routines-based Intervention (Embedded Instruction)

Shape blocks are good for children to have at home. They help children learn how to combine different shapes into new configurations. This will lead to them being able to construct representations of real things with blocks later.
