Observe the child in the back yard or a park. See how the child interacts with insects, animals, plants, and environmental surfaces.
No elicitation needed.
The child will find and study bugs, point to and watch birds, flying insects, and falling leaves. The child will imitate actions demonstrated by the adult (putting a stick or leaf in a stream) to watch what happens. Likes climbing hills, walking over obstacles, and rolling in the grass.
Encourage parents to allow their child to explore outdoor environments. Often the child is in a stroller, but not able to walk, run, and explore. Children need to stop and explore when interesting environments are encountered.
