Plays standing, such as at a small table (plays, then moves away)

Situations for Observation of Skill

Observe the child playing near a low table that has child-sized chairs and toys on the table.

Elicitation Strategy

No elicitation needed.

Behavior Observed

The child loves moving and likes to stand and play.

Routines-based Intervention (Embedded Instruction)

If there is a table for play, adults often want children to sit. It is important for them to have a choice. Some children feel more stable standing, especially if the chair at the table does not allow the child’s feet to touch the ground. Encourage early childhood educators and parents to allow children to experiment with different positions.
