Observe the child on the stairs.
No elicitation may be needed, but the adult can encourage the child to “Jump!” on the last step.
The child will try to jump, either with both feet or with one foot in a leap maneuver.
Early childhood educators and parents can encourage jumping by suggesting the child jump a crack in the sidewalk, pretend there is a “puddle” to jump, or try to jump like a “kangaroo.”
