Situations for Observation of Skill

Observe the child during doll play with an adult.

Elicitation Strategy

Ask the child, “Do you want the big doll or the little doll?” Let the child take the desired doll. Then find the big and little hats, pants, shoes, etc. for each.

Behavior Observed

The child retrieves the item requested.

Routines-based Intervention (Embedded Instruction)

Encourage parents to use descriptive words with their child, including size and color words (though the concept of color as a characteristic is just emerging).
