Starts to ask “who” and “where” questions

Situations for Observation of Skill

Observe the child during play activities.

Elicitation Strategy

Hide some of the child’s favorite toys, so she will ask where the toys are. Show the child photographs of familiar and unfamiliar people to elicit “Who is …” questions.

Behavior Observed

The child uses “who” and “where” questions appropriately.

Routines-based Intervention (Embedded Instruction)

“Who” and “where” questions help the child learn new names for people, and terminology for occupations, places and other location words. Parents need to understand their role in expanding the child’s vocabulary. They need to pay attention to the child’s questions and help him learn new words.
