Situations for Observation of Skill

Engage in pretend play around daily routines of the home.

Elicitation Strategy

Ask the child to lead the adult through the actions of a specific routine (eating, dressing, shopping, going to the park, etc.). Prompt by asking, “What should I do now?”

Behavior Observed

Observe whether the child understands different roles and what different characters would say or do.

Routines-based Intervention (Embedded Instruction)

Help parents understand the importance of dramatic play with the child. Encourage them to play different roles and let the child lead the actions whenever he can. This encourages the child to apply what he has experienced to a new situation
