Remembers finger plays and acts out sequences in dramatic play

Situations for Observation of Skill

Get information from the parent about the child’s favorite songs and finger plays.

Elicitation Strategy

Ask the child to teach you how to do his favorite song or finger play.

Behavior Observed

The child knows most of the words to familiar songs (though they may have them consistently wrong) and most of the gestures for familiar finger plays.

Routines-based Intervention (Embedded Instruction)

Encourage parents to sing and do finger plays with their child. They are fun and reinforce memory. Also encourage parents to talk about past events. Discuss what the child did and what others did. Also talk about how the experiences relate to what they are doing now.
