Remembers events up to 18 months in the past

Situations for Observation of Skill

Also ask about any special places they went over 1 year ago.

Elicitation Strategy

Tell the child a story about an event you went to (similar to the one the parent told you about). See if it triggers the child’s discussion of what she did in the past.

Behavior Observed

When reminded of events through association, the child can tell the basics about a long ago event. “Grandpa had a horse. I rode it.”

Routines-based Intervention (Embedded Instruction)

Encourage parents to sing and do finger plays with their child. They are fun and reinforce memory. Also encourage parents to talk about past events. Discuss what the child did and what others did. Also talk about how the experiences relate to what they are doing now.
