Observe the adult teaching the child a new song or finger play.
No elicitation needed.
The child asks the adult to repeat or clarify, (e.g., “What did you say?”) the words to the song.
Children often stop paying attention if they don’t understand something. Early childhood educators and parents can remind children to ask for clarification when needed. “You can say, ‘I don’t understand’ or ‘Say that again.’”
