Describes what he likes about himself

Situations for Observation of Skill

Have a discussion about children in a book or in their preschool classroom.

Elicitation Strategy

When reading talk about the characteristics of the children in the book. What do they like about the girls or boys in the book? As you talk about the characters, ask the child what they like about themselves.

Behavior Observed

The child identifies the positive characteristics of classmates and characters in the book. The child identifies what he likes about himself.

Routines-based Intervention (Embedded Instruction)

Encourage early childhood educators and parents to help children know what they do well and what other people like about them. Help adults know that helping children understand their positive personality traits and skills is more important than knowing their positive physical traits (which are often emphasized).
