Parts of objects may not be connected (toothbrush may be a stick with separate "bristle" lines)

Situations for Observation of Skill

Give the child paper and crayons or markers.

Elicitation Strategy

Ask the child to draw a person.

Behavior Observed

Attempts to draw familiar objects with their various parts (parts may not be connected correctly).

Routines-based Intervention (Embedded Instruction)

Children are expanding their drawings from people to objects. Early childhood educators and parents should encourage children to notice things in their environment and try drawing them. For example, draw the slide on the playground or the television set at home.
