Observe the child during daily activities or interview the adult.
Involve children in setting the table for snack and lunch.
The child sets the appropriate items on the table, but may need assistance with number and placement.
Children can do many classroom and home routines to build self-care skills. For example, children in the classroom can demonstrate or help each other do tasks, such as setting up for snack or lunch, cleaning up after activities, preparing for centers, and grooming after recess or naps.
