Produces the following morphemes: Articles, Irregular past tense, Regular past tense, Third person regular verbs, Contracted copula, Irregular third person singular verbs (“she has” “she does”)

Situations for Observation of Skill

Listen to the child’s conversation with adults or peers during play. Record or write down the conversation for later analysis.

No elicitation needed.

Behavior Observed

The child produces few errors with verb tense. He understands when the is verb can be contracted and when it can’t. The child uses irregular singular verbs do-does and have-has correctly.

Routines-based Intervention (Embedded Instruction)

Morphemes are learned through hearing them used and practicing their usage. Encourage early childhood educators and parents to model and correct usage (by repeating the incorrect phrase with the appropriate phrase).
