Observe the child during and after a story is read.

Elicitation Strategy

After reading several pages in the story, ask the child to tell you what the story is about.

Behavior Observed

The child remembers and relates the sequence of events in a story, and uses logic to predict what she thinks will happen next.

Routines-based Intervention (Embedded Instruction)

After reading a story, the adult can ask the child to review what happened in the story. When reading a new story, the adult can stop after several pages and ask, “What do you think will happen next?” The child should be able to connect actions to predict consequences.
