Asks about spelling, spacing of words

Situations for Observation of Skill

Have paper and pencil or markers for the child.

Elicitation Strategy

Ask the child to write under one of her drawings her name and a label for her drawing.

Behavior Observed

The child asks for help to write letters and spell words.

Routines-based Intervention (Embedded Instruction)

The more children write and self-correct, as well as seek assistance, the faster children will learn to write words accurately. Reading and writing are parallel efforts, so adults need to do shared reading with children and examine the text in relation to the spelling and meaning of words.
