Establishes special friendships that last over time; demonstrates cooperative, coordinated socio-dramatic play

Situations for Observation of Skill

Observe the child in dramatic play situations (over time is best).

Elicitation Strategy

No elicitation needed.

Behavior Observed

The child has preferred play partners. The partners determine together what they want to do and build off each other’s ideas.

Routines-based Intervention (Embedded Instruction)

Cooperative play, where children have the same goals as part of their activity involves planning, coordination, and discussion. Early childhood educators and parents can encourage socio-dramatic play by providing old clothing, paper and discarded objects for making props. Support children’s desire to put on performances by volunteering to be an audience.
