Uses words to try to solve conflicts with friends

Situations for Observation of Skill

Observe the child in a small group activity in childcare or at a park with other children.

Elicitation Strategy

No elicitation may be needed, as conflict among children may arise naturally.

Behavior Observed

The child tries to solve the problem without asking for adult intervention. A compromise or other alternative may be offered.

Routines-based Intervention (Embedded Instruction)

Encourage early childhood educators and parents to have siblings and friends solve their own problems. Encourage them to think of alternatives that will be acceptable to all.
