Observe the child in a small group activity in childcare or at a park with other children.
No elicitation may be needed, as conflict among children may arise naturally.
The child tries to solve the problem without asking for adult intervention. A compromise or other alternative may be offered.
Encourage early childhood educators and parents to have siblings and friends solve their own problems. Encourage them to think of alternatives that will be acceptable to all.
