Becomes demanding and resists doing chores

Situations for Observation of Skill

Observe the child before and after the adult leaves her with another adult. Also observe during daily routines.

Elicitation Strategy

No elicitation needed.

Behavior Observed

The child demonstrates an emerging sense of self by demanding desires be met and arguing about what or how she needs to do chores.

Routines-based Intervention (Embedded Instruction)

Help parents understand that young children should have chores so they learn they have a responsibility to the whole family, not just themselves. Children also need boundaries and an understanding of what is a “want” and what is a “need.”
