Begins to dribble a ball

Situations for Observation of Skill

Set up an obstacle course on the playground. Have a scooter, a tennis ball, a jump rope, a balance beam, foam blocks.

Elicitation Strategy

Demonstrate bouncing the ball. Alternatively, line all children up in two lines, and then have the person in the front of the line bounce the ball and walk or run up to the basket, throw, then go to the back of the line.

Behavior Observed

The child bounces a ball several times.

Routines-based Intervention (Embedded Instruction)

Have many balls available for children to share. Line up pairs of children 6 feet apart and give them balls to pass back and forth using different methods: two hands overhand and underhand, one hand overhand and underhand, bounce pass, and roll. Play group games involving passing a ball.
