Observe the child in peer discussions throughout the day.
If humor is not seen spontaneously, the adult can ask the child to tell them a joke or something that she thinks is funny.
The child understands how the unexpected is funny and how language used in different ways can be funny. He may tell a joke using a framework (e.g., a knock-knock joke), but not know why it is or is not funny.
Include humorous books into the classroom day and provide suggestions for parents about books that are humorous for children.
