Observe the child with dolls, action figures, paper and markers for making a book, etc.
Provide materials related to favorite characters for dramatic play. Or have paper and markers for writing a story book.
Observe the development of story line, character, action details, etc. Look for elaborate, creative thinking to illustrate confidence and a positive sense of self.
Encourage early childhood educators and parents to support creative thinking and development of imaginative ideas, even if they don’t make sense or seem silly. Children will experiment with juxtaposing ideas and actions to see what new ideas they can create.
