Observe the child during daily routines of classroom and home.
If this is not seen naturally, the adult can ask questions about what the child would do in specific situations. For example, “What would you do if you saw someone being punished for something he didn’t do?”
The child argues for what she believes is “fair” or “right.” The child presents justification for why her position is right.
Help parents understand that fairness becomes a big issue for children at this level. This provides an opportunity for adults to examine aspects of fairness and justice.
