Remembers how to activate familiar toys

Situations for Observation of Skill

Place easily activated (can bang or shake) familiar toys that make noise, move, or light up within reach of the seated infant.

Elicitation Strategy

No elicitation needed.

Behavior Observed

Watch if the child knows how to bang or shake the toy appropriately. This indicates memory for actions.

Routines-based Intervention (Embedded Instruction)

Remind early childhood educators and parents to wait before demonstrating what to do with a toy for the baby. This gives the infant time to remember how to do things by herself. This is important for the development of autonomy.
