Watch the infant as others are interacting with her and each other.

One adult in the room can register more emotion or facial expression.

Behavior Observed

The child will pay more attention to the adult who is using exaggerated expression.

Routines-based Intervention (Embedded Instruction)

Explain how important facial expression is as an adjunct to verbal communication. Babies learn the meaning of words not only from matching words to objects and events, but also from attaching meaning to facial expression.
