Calmed by familiar adult

Situations for Observation of Skill

Observe the infant when fussing and/or crying.

Elicitation Strategy

No elicitation needed.

Behavior Observed

The infant calms when the adult uses typical calming strategies, such as rocking, walking, singing, etc.

Routines-based Intervention (Embedded Instruction)

Help parents notice the baby’s different responses to various people. This may provide assurance that their baby does know and love them. Ask about what they have found to calm the infant. Reinforce their knowledge about what “works” for their infant.
