Observe the child during pretend play with two baby dolls or stuffed animals.
The adult pretends to feed the doll or stuffed animal a bottle saying, “My baby is hungry.”
The infant watches the adult and imitates the actions of feeding the baby.
Early childhood educators and parents often underestimate the infant’s play abilities. Encourage them to introduce baby dolls or stuffed animals (for both boys and girls) at this age. Children are gaining interest in daily activities and doing these activities for themselves. Baby dolls or stuffed animals allow them to take a nurturing role.
