Pretends to feed and bathe baby

Situations for Observation of Skill

Observe the infant with a baby doll, a baby bottle, towel, etc.

Elicitation Strategy

Hand the infant the baby and bottle or a towel and wash cloth. If the child does not feed or wash the baby, the adult can verbally prompt or model for the child.

Behavior Observed

The child will put the bottle to the baby’s face or wrap the baby in a towel. This indicates understanding of what is done to a baby.

Routines-based Intervention (Embedded Instruction)

The child is moving into her first role play by imitating feeding a baby and washing it. Help parents understand that children can start early to act out roles and learn to nurture in dramatic play. Even boys should have baby dolls.
