Cleans face and hands with damp cloth

Situations for Observation of Skill

Observe what the infant does with a damp washcloth.

Elicitation Strategy

The adult hands the child a damp cloth

Behavior Observed

The infant spontaneously remembers how a wet cloth is used.

Routines-based Intervention (Embedded Instruction)

The infant loves to do what the adult does. After several demonstrations she can do simple tasks. Encourage parents to let the child drop clothes in the washer, trash in the trashcan, pull tissues out of the box, etc. These little acts help children learn more complex sequences of self-care skills.
