Observe the child in the bathroom for daily routines.
The adult positions the child so her hands can be washed and dried.
The child hold hands under the faucet or in a position to be washed by a cloth, whatever is used in the home.
Help parents understand the importance of early dental care. Infants should avoid drinks with sugar and have mostly milk and water. Tell parents not to put the child to bed with a bottle, as the sugar in the milk sits in the mouth and causes decay. Many parents think children of this age are too young for teeth brushing, but children’s teeth need to be cleaned. Have them help by giving them a brush, as well. The adult demonstrates and then the child tries. Demonstration and imitation works for washing and combing hair as well.
