Behavior Observed
The child uses single words, and the adult interprets them as meaning a question or comment. For example, “Mama” may mean “I want you to pick me up.” Or “Mama, give me the cup” or “That’s is my mama.”
Routines-based Intervention (Embedded Instruction)
Encourage early childhood educators and parents to label items the child is looking at or holding. This will help them learn new vocabulary.
