Chews with mouth closed

Situations for Observation of Skill

Ask the parent about foods the child eats.

Elicitation Strategy

While the child is eating and drinking ask about what meats, fruits, vegetables, etc. the child eats.

Behavior Observed

Once the food is in the mouth the child chews well with the mouth closed.

Routines-based Intervention (Embedded Instruction)

The child is now able to successfully eat and drink with little assistance. Encourage parents to have the child eat with the rest of the family rather than at a separate time. This way the child observes others eating, eats the same food, and participates in the mealtime talk.
