Understands some pronouns (my/mine, you, me)

Situations for Observation of Skill

Observe the child in play with the adult or another child.

Elicitation Strategy

The child may spontaneously use pronouns or answer “what” questions. If not, the adult can elicit these by using them in play. For example, ask, “What do you want to play with?” During block building the adult might say, “My turn.” “Your turn.” When the blocks fall, the adult can say, “That makes me sad!”

Behavior Observed

The child responds to or uses pronouns appropriately.

Routines-based Intervention (Embedded Instruction)

Encourage parents to use pronouns as they do daily activities with their child. For example, “My water; your water.” “Your turn; my turn.” “This cup’s yours and this one is mine.”
