Moves, shifts, and combines objects in different ways

Situations for Observation of Skill

Provide small play objects, such as blocks, small cards, poker chips or household materials, such as cereal loops, spoons, cups and lids, etc.

Elicitation Strategy

No elicitation needed.

Behavior Observed

The child experiments with different combinations of objects, both for visual effect, but also to explore relationships (e.g., cereal lined up, then in cup, then spoon in cup, then eat them with the spoon).

Routines-based Intervention (Embedded Instruction)

Children need opportunities to explore spatial relationships with a variety of objects. Encourage parents to see items in the household and in nature as play objects. They provide opportunities for combining, rearranging and understanding visual and physical relationships.
