Knows “one more”

Situations for Observation of Skill

Observe the child during daily activities when a family member asks the child for “one more” of something.

Elicitation Strategy

If this does not happen spontaneously, an adult can ask the child during play for “one more block” or play item.

Behavior Observed

The child is able to hand one item to the adult upon request.

Routines-based Intervention (Embedded Instruction)

Help parents learn how to observe their child’s growing understanding of numbers. Through simple observation, listening to the child’s use of number words, and prompting use of number words with requests. Understanding what the child knows helps parents think of what they can do to consolidate or “bump up” their child’s knowledge.
