Observe the infant during daily routines and play interactions.

Elicitation Strategy

Observe changes in facial expressions and body movements during all activities.

Behavior Observed

Careful observation will reveal what events elicit various emotions and how the child exhibits responses.

Routines-based Intervention (Embedded Instruction)

Help early childhood educators and parents read the infants cues if they are only responding to crying or other obvious emotions. If they learn to read the infants subtle expressions and movements they can communicate and respond more quickly and effectively.
