Shows physical excitement when parent comes into view

Situations for Observation of Skill

Observe after nap or when parent has been out of view and comes into the child’s view.

Elicitation Strategy

No elicitation needed.

Behavior Observed

The child’s arms and or legs move when the parent comes into view and the child may smile.

Routines-based Intervention (Embedded Instruction)

Remind parents that their child’s response to them is somewhat dependent on their own actions toward the child. The infant will smile in response to their smiles, calm when they are calm, etc. Help them read the infant’s communication by commenting on the infant’s reactions. “Look he is kicking and waving his arms to say he’s happy to see you.”
