Plays near adult

Situations for Observation of Skill

Observe the child’s movement in relation to the adult.

Elicitation Strategy

Place toys and the infant a distance from the adult.

Behavior Observed

The infant moves toward the adult, sits and looks at the adult, or cries to get the adult to come and get him.

Routines-based Intervention (Embedded Instruction)

Let parents know that wanting to keep the adult in view is typical. Seeing the adult makes the baby feel safe and secure. Encourage parents to take the child to different rooms with them and let him explore these different environments.
