Behavior Observed

The child begins to explore using hands and fingers. Hands go in the adult’s mouth and a finger up the nose. Exploring Mom or Dad is great fun!

Routines-based Intervention (Embedded Instruction)

Game play with the baby on the adult’s lap is important. The child’s exploration of the adult teaches her about body parts and separateness. Singing songs, playing peek-a-boo, and bouncing games are also fun. Tell parents to wait for the child to signal she wants the game to happen again. This teaches communication, taking turns, and initiation.
