Constantly demands adult’s attention, especially when the adult is busy

Situations for Observation of Skill

Observe the child in interaction with the adult within daily routines.

Elicitation Strategy

No elicitation needed.

Behavior Observed

The child hangs on the adult, pulls on clothing, and calls to the adult while she is talking to someone else. The child does not like to share attention.

Routines-based Intervention (Embedded Instruction)

Constant demands for attention can be irritating to busy parents. Help parents find ways to give quick attention then redirect or involve the child in what they are doing. Help parents understand that the child is just seeking reassurance that they are important.
