Cries if adult leaves or stranger appears

Situations for Observation of Skill

Observe when the adult leaves the infant alone.

Elicitation Strategy

No elicitation is needed other than the adult leaving.

Behavior Observed

The infant cries at separation from familiar adult or when a stranger appears.

Routines-based Intervention (Embedded Instruction)

Help parents understand that the crying is saying, “I miss you.” Encourage the adult to talk to the child and comfort from a distance. Constant holding to keep the child from crying will not help the child learn to be separate.
