Observe the infant when the adult is making requests: Give me… Where is…? Show me… Put it down.
The adult makes a request of the child as part of natural play and interactions.
The child knows what actions make the adult laugh and initiates them.
Help parents know that making a request of the child that the child fulfills is an opportunity to build the child’s confidence and reinforce his efforts. Encourage parents to talk to the child about how hard he is trying.
